Virtual Component Library

Note for Inventor users enabling the add-in!

Note! Inventor 2025 users has to install completely new version. Check all versions from Autodesk Apps Store.

Virtual Component Library allows you to create one assembly (iam) where all the virtual components are saved. After that with Virtual Comp. Lib command you can place them into your assembly.

Virtual Component Library saves time when you have to enter iProperties for the virtual component only once and then can re-use the component.

Inserting Virtual components into assembly

Just start the Virtual Comp. Lib. command under Assemble tab, CodeSystems panel:

Go to Folder... button in the selection menu

And select the virtual component for copying it into the target Assembly.

Reference Document Document where the symbols are stored. Note! If you change the document, close the dialog and start command again.
Left Window List of all virtual components in the library assembly.
Right Window When component is selected in the left window, you can see the existing iProperties here.
Product Page Opens product page in your web browser
Info Opens a window with workstation information. More information below.
Place Comp Inserts the selected virtual component into the active assembly. Note! If sub-assembly is activated in the target assembly, virtual component will go under sub-assembly.
Cancel Closes the dialog
Go to Folder... button in the selection menu

In Info page you’ll find the general information regarding platform, CodeSystems application and Inventor. If you want to contact us for support, please click Copy to Clipboard and then Start Contact Form. The contact form will appear and you can paste information and describe your problem.

How to create a Virtual assembly library?

  • Start a new assembly (iam)
  • Start Create command under Assemble tab, Component panel
  • Select Virtual Component and give the name and type for virtual component
  • After OK, you can right-click the component in the browser and select iProperties. Modify Properties.
  • You can also modify component settings (Units, BOM type) right-clicking the component in the browser and select Component Settings…
  • If your virtual library is getting bigger and you want to create separate folders for e.g. Bolts you can right-click in the browser and select Create Folder. You can drag and drop the components into the folders.
  • If you have existing virtual components already used in your assemblies you can copy & paste them into the virtual assembly library file.
